My 33 Gallon tank

Well, I came home last night, and my RBTA had decided to wander. I don't think that it killed anything, but decided to stop at a very bad place in my tank where it would likely kill a lot of things. So this morning I pointed a powerhead towards the foot, trying to get it to move back. But I guess it was a little too strong of flow, b/c some of the foot ripped. I didn't want to chance it, so I decided to remove it from the tank, while I could still reach it. If it would have receded into the rock work to die, I would've had to rip about half of the live rock out to get to it. So I figured it was best. The anemone was 3rd generation tank raised, so I don't feel so bad about it being ripped from the ocean.

I think in the long run this will be better for my tank. It's only 33 gallon, and a mixed reef. There simply wasn't enough room for it and the mixed reef if it ever started splitting. The anemone was very healthy, so I feel like the money I spent on it was just me learning about husbandry for an anemone.

I got like 14 or 15 new corals yesterday. So I'm not going to post photos of all of them tonight. Got like 5 really nice acros that I haven't took a photo of yet. Also, some zoas that I'm waiting to get settled in. But here's photos of some of the new stuff:

Frogspawn that I won in Dirty Santa (my 2 year old niece today said "I like frogspawn. It's my favorite" and she had to tell it goodnight tonight:

Some trumpets from Corey. (Don't mind them, they have their mouths full of food in the photo):

    Some awesome looking zoas:

That's all for tonight. May post photos of the others tomorrow. The acros are nice!

Great photos, you've got some skill for taking them under the blue light. Mine never look that good when I take them.

If you shoot the photos in Raw, you can open them in Photoshop and change the light temperature to the appropriate setting. Since my fixture is 16K, I go into photoshop and set the lighting temperature to 16000. It will give you true colors by doing it that way.

Almost a full-tank shot. I'm ready to start letting things grow out, and start saving for a larger tank:

Rose Milli, best shot I have right now of it. I was doing a water change when I took this, so kind of cloudy. But I think this is going to be my favorite coral. I hope that it does well in my tank!

An acan lord that I got recently, and some zoas that I won at the reef club auction.

I think this is called a Blue Bottle cap milli. I forgot. But I think this one will look nice too.

Thanks! I am hoping that the SPS I am adding will eventually fill most of the open space at the top. And I will let the other corals grow out, and continue to add things like zoas to really fill in open spaces. I purchased this tank used, and it has really changed in the year that I have had it. It's kind of awesome to see how one tank morphs between different owners.

Thanks. Couldn't remember. I try to keep a list if my coral names wrote down, because I forget. That's why I also post all these photos, so I can go back & know the names, & when I got them.

Nice! That milli is gonna be a stunner. Mine is one of my slower growing acros.

Shawn, what are those bottle brush acros like? Picky? Hard to keep color? Growth rate?

Not to picky, slow growth rate, though not as slow as the milli, color can change from turquoise to dark blue depending on lighting. I never have had any problems with it. I have noticed that a lot of the sps I like are slow growers, but most of the time it's worth it.

Nice! Is that two different color frogspawns in the front or just a lighting difference?

They are two different ones. I believe they are both the same color. There are some lighting differences, but also some color differences. The one on the left has been in my tank since like August. The one on the right I got at the last club meeting for Dirty Santa. But I think they are both neon green with purple tips. They are starting to look more and more alike each day.

Duncan corals really do grow fast! I added this single head a little over a month ago, and there are already SIX new heads forming on the base. They have each started to shoot out tentacles from these bumps, and are individual. I had heard they grew fast, but didn't realize that fast. I'm going to have to move it and give it some more room!

All the photos of the acans made me want to post a photo of my favorite ones. This is a shot of the middle of my tank, they are on the bottom right.

Here's the acans I picked up yesterday. Love these! They are going to go into the 225 gallon, and I am going to let them grow. I think they will be a pretty stunning colony.

That acan glows doesn't it. Looks happy already man.

Palytoxin, did you just make that up?

It really does. I had just put it in my tank yesterday, and was doing something when my 2 1/2 year old niece came up to the tank. She pointed at them and said, "wow, look at all those acans!" That blew me away when she did that. Sometimes when we are looking at the tank, I'll say "that's a frogspawn, that's an acan, etc.." But that was pretty surprising.

Hey Allen, I found out the new "120" degree lenses for the razors are just reflectors and no actual lens. So I just took the lenses off. Helped the corners start getting some light.
