Norman's 200 & Chris's 75 Underway

Discussion in 'DIY' started by schillerstreetreef, Apr 16, 2007.

  1. I got started on Norman's 200 gallon fish only tank today, along with a 75 gallon sps tank that I am setting up. The stands are some of the best that I have built so far. I have learned alot from my clam tank build and Joes new aquarium. The 200 gallong has an oversized door on the front with mitered corners. The exteriors of both tanks will be done in oak with ionic columns and black ceramic as the lip of each stand. The finish will be in mahoganny that will really look nice against the black ceramic. I will report progress over the next couple of days.

  2. I got the frames skinned with oak plywood today and will probably get to the trim tomorrow.

  3. I got quite a bit done today. The trim is done on both aquariums and I got the door panels cut. Next up is to assemble the doors and the frames for the hoods.

  7. I managed to get the doors glued up today and got the chance to use my new wet tile saw on the stand lip. You can get an idea of what I was talking about by using tile. I used liquid nails to attach them, which I read on the tube that it is not recommended for use on ceramic. It seems to have held well, I will know more tomorrow. I think that they are saying that it is not recomended for gluing things to the face of tile because of the ultra smooth surface. I put some of the back of a spare piece and it stuck pretty well so I am hoping that it will be OK.

Very tricked out! The tile really is a nice touch and I bet that glue will hold forever.

  12. Got the 200 gallon stand sanded and the doors put on. I also got the lights put in the stands, although the one that Norman bought didn't work so I have to take it back. Norman wanted some cushion under such a big aquarium so we put a piece of insullation on it. Next up is the finish which I will get started on this coming weekend.

  13. I got the black grout done on the tile yesterday. I used a product called Spectralock that is not water based, so it should hold up to water damage alot better. I went ahead and put two coats of Red Mahogany on both stands. I had planned on spraying the polyurethane/Naptha today but the humidity is at 75% and the stain is still tackey. I will just have to wait on Mother Nature. There are more rain chances in the next week so I don't suspect that it is going to be dry any time soon. Did you here that NORMAN. :p

Chris you are working your "finger's to the bone" It's paying off too, that's one of the prettiest tanks I've seen.

I am sorry but I had to chuckle a little bit on that

  18. I am glad that you all find my PAIN so humerous. How about some pictures to but it in perspective. It is not as bad as I had initially thought, the tissue is still under the nail for the most part. I had thought I was going to have to have a thenar flap when I first dit it. That is a 4 month rehab and I know because I did the same thing to the left index finger. Now they match  I go to the surgeon on Tuesday - well see then. It doesn't feel to bad today, I had thought about spraying the finish coats on the stands but I don't think that Roxanne is going to let me. Oh, well.
