It depends alot on what corals and bio load you are going to have as to how "plug and play" it well be, there is nothing plug and play for all setups.

  5. for all setups... sure would have to agree there....

Here a bit about the lights on the 250 - the specs for the new 500 have not come out yet.

In long-term tests we conducted on the MAX 130 & 130D in our laboratory, the system proved capable of supporting all soft corals (Sarcophyton sp., Lobophytum sp., Sinularia sp., Xenia; Cladiella sp., etc.), all LPSs (Large Polyp Scleractinia, like Euphyllia sp., Plerogyra sp., Nemenzophyllia sp., Trachphyllia sp., Caulestra sp., etc.), some SPSs (Small Polyp Scleractinia, such as Stylophora sp. and Seriatopora), sea anemones, all types of crustacean (cleaner shrimps, peppermint shrimps, hermit crabs, scarlet hermit crabs), sea stars and giant clams (Tridacna sp.).

The Max 250 has been designed specifically to be capable of supporting even the most delicate SPS corals, and offers no limitations other than the physical size of the aquarium.

Glenn lighting is just one item. Sizing of the protein skimmer is one and the most important depending on the bio load, mainly fish, not to mention on a bigger tank I would highly reccomend a sump so as to be able to run a big enough skimmer, and some kind of felt sock to remove detritus, also powerheads of some kind is needed for flow and that depends alot on the corals and substrate material, maybe a refuge if keeping softies. It is a good beginning, but is not all that is needed to play sometimes.

  7. agree...

John - The RSM 250 comes stock with a pretty nice skimmer rated over the tank size & a nice set of circulation pumps....

    Circulation Pumps 1 x 1200 lph & 1 x 2400 lph
    (320 gph & 640 gph)

Skimmer water throughput 1000 lph (240 gph)
Skimmer max Air flow 300 lph (80 gph)
    Skimmer foam adjuster

but the bottom line - imo is... and most importantly - the system works... not sales & marketing, but hundreds of members that I chat with daily & post tank pics with geourgous coral & fish...

of course the bio-load does have to be taken into account, as to the number of fish you can add... to any tank... agree there, for sure !

  8. Remember the RSM 250 ... is a 64 gal tank

so all the specs above is related to a 64 gallon tank.

I have enjoyed my 250 since I started it in Christmas. I've had no setbacks or issues with my tank. However, I haven't pushed the limits too much other than adding a lot fish in a reasonably short period of time.

  10. Just got a bit of a scoop on the new RSM 500 - from a UK Red Sea Rep on the inside

The new 132 gallon RSM will have the following:

"Right now I can throw a few things to you- 10x54w T5 & 12xled moonlights- all controlled by twin programmable timers, C-Skim1800 skimmer, automatic top-up, interchangable color trims."

When the Interzoo show ends... will know more... will be vid posted on youtube too !

  11. New RSM 500 - will come with a sump ! Red Sea Max Rep just confirmed !

    grimmett Tang

So the RSM 500 is pretty much going to be like most every other reef ready tank they just matched it all unto one system and took all the guess work out of it. Glenn do you plan to one of these when you upgrade?

  13. Hi Sam - yes, my 34 gallon tank is so full, I can't get in another coral - I am wanting to upgrade to a bigger tank and I have had good luck with my 1st swt.

I do think the RSM All-In-One tanks work well - not to say by any means ... that for the same $$$ or less you can't build a better system, but imo for someone who is not a big DIY guy, the Red Sea engineers have built some pretty good AIOs & I am hoping the new RSM 500 will be thier best so far.

and one of the most appealing things about the RSM AIO tanks to me, is the RSM Forum on Reef Sanctuary, you get to share information & knowledge with 10,000 other people who have the "exact" same tank as you, in the RSM club we have over a dozen members that have had huge reef tanks for many many years and choose to downsize to the RSM. I try to spend at least one hour a day reading & learning there & they have taught me a lot.

  14. I had been thinking about getting the RSM250 (64 gal.), but now the RSM S500 (132 gal.) has me intrigued.

Here a couple of pics of RSM 250's from the RSM club.
