I was surprised to win this tank at Reef Fest this past weekend. I am redoing my bedroom, and thought this tank would be perfect in there.

I am going to paint the bedroom walls black this weekend. I ordered some rock and 40lbs of black sand. I am thinking this is going to be a softie tank, but maybe some bright LPS on the sandbed too. (I read that orange plate corals look great on black sand). I might even consider doing a rose anemone. Not sure about the fish yet. I am going to remove the hood this weekend, and see if my maxspect nano led will work on this tank. I have seen where some have removed the bracing on this tank, and made a nice rimless tank. I don't think that I'm brave enough to try that though. I am also considering purchasing a Coralife Biocube 29 Media Basket. Any suggestions on what to use in the media basket? I think it has 3 chambers. The tank came with bioballs, but I think that I am going to remove those.

Thanks. I'm going to get the media basket, but it'll probably be a few more weeks. I'm trying to buy lights for my 93 gallon. But I can go ahead and cycle the tank & then add those?

    Got my rocks in.

I think this is the best setup with what rocks I got. I was trying to leave plenty of sandbed space, which was hard to do. This is about 30lbs. I did have an 8lb Rock I was going to add too, but not enough room.

I removed the lid. That was easy. I tried mounting my maxspect nano LEDs, but they were unstable with the mounting brackets. I ordered another bracket, and I think it will be more stable with two brackets. Hopefully this will work and I won't have to hang them.

I've also got like 40lbs of black sand coming in. Ready to get this cycle going.

What are you going to do with the lid?

Probably keep it in my closet. I don't think I'll use it.

Looks good! I'm interested to see how the black sand goes. Have you used it before?

No. And it says it doesn't buffer. So I don't know if it'll cause issues. I hope it works out. I like the look.

Just watch your alkalinity. You might have to dose more and sooner with not using aragonite. Is it volcanic sand?

I don't think so. Most of the reviews I've read, people said they didn't have issues with it being magnetic. I think it's a little harder to keep clean. I'd like to find an orange plate for the bottom, or maybe a mini maxi anemone garden.

So I'm thinking about potential corals that I already own that I would like to move into a new tank. I'm pretty sure I'm going to put these two in the biocube. One is an octospawn and I believe the other is an Acan Echinata. I think the orange in the echinata will really pop with all the black.

I'm thinking the Octospawn I will put in spot 1, and the enchinata in spot 2.

I think some Tubastrea would look good on the black sand

    Hiya,

You might want to consider putting the octo in another place. If it continues to grow, it's going to take over some prime real estate in that tank for other corals.

I'll have to figure it out. That's a pretty big ledge. I want a nice coral in that spot. I might have to put the octospawn on the sandbed.

I dunno if I want to keep a sun coral. I'm worried about dirtying my water, but I'll read up on them. They are pretty.
