I put two in the tank. One disappeared. I dunno if it's still alive. The other moved to find its current spot, but hasn't moved since. It has been there over 6 months.
Got sand, rock, and water in the tank. I went with a 4.5"-5" sandbed for the carpet anemone. It seems really deep to me! Now to begin the cycle. I'm using this. Has anybody else used it before?
Hiya, I like the rock scap! I haven't ever used a product to speed up my cycle. Just active live rock. Kim/Benton, AR
I'll be interested to see how much it affects the cycle. I've always just used live rock to cycle the tank but have used Microbacter7 to enhance filtration. I like what it does for water clarity.
I'm using dry rock and live sand. That's what I've always used. I'm not necessarily trying to speed up the cycle, I guess I was just trying to ensure the bacteria was there to begin with. But I didn't have any problems getting my other tanks to cycle. So I'll just see what it does. It can't hurt. I tried to make it so the rock was at a low risk to avalanche. I read where that is a risk with carpet anemones. Hopefully the anemone decides to make front and center it's home. It should have plenty of room to expand and grow really large.
The tank is up and running. I'll try to get some photos soon. But I've got 2 black clownfish, neon gsp I'm trying to get growing on the back wall. I've got some pulsing xenia, 2 duncans, and a green leather in the tank. I've got some inverts coming in this week for the tank. I'm not sure at what point I'll feel comfortable adding a carpet anemone. For some reason I've got June in my head, but we will see what the tank is doing come then.
I'm having problems keeping my water clear. I am running carbon, and the mp10 is turned way down. I don't see any sand blowing. I've done water changes. Any suggestions? Sorry that the photo is sideways. I'm on my phone.
I just ordered a green carpet anemone from Live Aquaria. I had been wanting a blue or red one, but I've seen them going for $700-$800. With shipping, I paid $80 for this one. Since this is my first attempt at keeping one, I couldn't justify buying a red or blue one. I am also running a metal halid 10k light on this tank. The red or blue wouldn't pop like they would under my radions. If I can get this thing in the tank and happy, I'll post photos tomorrow.
It's a Haddoni Carpet Anemone. This tank was built for one of these specifically in mind, although it might be a little small. But I'm willing to give it the entire tank, so it might be alright.
Stopped by the Fish Bowl today and picked up 5 new soft corals, a torch, and diamond goby. Here's one of the soft corals:
Here's another leather, it's pink and looks cool with the yellow one I posted above So far, this toadstool is 6-7" on the top. It's still working on opening, but the base is pretty thick. I also got a waving hand Athenia, and some green hairy mushrooms.
Those all look huge!! I got a small toadstool from John and I LOVE it! It looks so cool when the green polyps are waving in the current. Mine is less than 2" but his parent one was very large and I can't wait for it to grow!
They are very large. The Fish Bowl was doing a buy 2, get 1 free. I ended up paying $40 each for them. But they are all very large.
Here's a full tank shot from tonight. About a month ago, the carpet anemone wandered during the night, and got sucked into a powerhead. I have since covered them (should have done that to begin with) but decided to go with a soft coral tank instead. The bottom center, I would love to have a huge red goni, but the goby would keep sand blower up on it. I want something bright and unique to go in that spot.
