well im new to reef ive had fresh my whole life im in the process of starting a 72 bow front and was wondering if its safe to use the water change from someone to cycle my tank? and is there anyone near greenbrier that would give me some of their dirty water?

Using some water change water to cycle your tank is a good idea. It will help get the bio-load jump started but it will cycle even if you don't do it that way. Just put some shrimp or frozen food in the tank and leave it to rot and it will cycle. If I didn't live so far from you I am due for a thirty five gallon water change that you would be welcome to. Maybe someone closer can help you out.

I have to buy salt today, I'll be draining about 30 gallons as well, maybe a little more on wednesday or thursday. . I live in Wooster, just PM me for directions.

I'm in Conway and know someone in Greenbrier that may be able to help you. I also can give you some sand and maybe trade some live rock to help you get started. 501-329-6964 Norman

I don't think it would hurt to use someone else old change water, but not sure it would help that much either... I would just go slow & let it cycle with the LR as the seed.

and thats really not too bad, you can get a bucket of salt for around $50 and they make between 160 and 200 gallons, so you get 10 weeks of water out of $50.

Also if you have about $150 I would invenst in an RO unit as soon as you can. There is nothing more satisfying than NOT having to lug 5 gallon buckets/jugs from the LFS to your house.
