II've been looking at LED floodlights for the 135 FOWLR tank. Currently it has 2 - 250 watt MH lights and 4 - 3' T5 lights. I want to take out the MH lights since we wont have coral that will need that kind of light and I can cut back the extra heat and energy cost. In the place of the MH lights I was thinking about maybe using 4 PAR38 LED floollight bulbs. I would hopefully get the ripple effect in the water without the extra heat and at only 20 watts for four lights.  The lights are at ACE Hardware and are only 18.89 each. i have 2 of those on my FOWLR. they have a very narrow beam and are not a flood light. maybe the ACE brand is different? They do cause a cool ripple effect which is somewhat lost when if I turn on the T5s. Looks really cool at night.
No comment on the led's but I was wondering if you would be interested in selling or trading on those mh's?
Well actually the MH lights are going to stay with the person that is selling the tank. He is going to use them with his next tank. I just didnt see a need in having them in a FOWLR tank.
Sam and I visited a local fish store in Dallas last weekend that had an LED setup on a tank that allowed you to dim red, green, blue and white all the way to off. It was truly amazing how the color of a school of anthias could change from green to orange to the hottest pink you have every seen outside of Photoshop. I current think the jury is still out on corals and LED's but if I were doing a fish only tank I would use them without hesitation. I will say though that this setup was not done on a low budget.
That fish store in Dallas was The Fish Gallery! We went there today. Very cool store and reasonable prices.
