I have moved here recently which gave me a chance to clean up the tank (which i hate to admit has been in a terrible state for a few months. And during this move my 10 gallon got cracked...

I now have a nice little area that is just big enough for a 29 gallon...

I wanted to know what y'all thought i should do now...

Remember my original plan was a mantis shrim and im still fine with that idea, but im also open for things i hadnt considered because of the small tank...

BTW I will be using an extra 10 gallon as a sump and will be setting up a 2.5 gallon refuguim...

Ok so like I said the tank was intended for a Mantis shrimp, but if you can think of anymore oddball type stuff... Let me know...

I would love to have an eel... I was thinking snow flake, but they get to big... I was hoping i could squeeze a gymnothorax tile in there (maybe i wont get too flamed for this so I'll convince myself its not that cruel), but im still investigateing that one...

Ok so i did a little browsing on Dr. F&S and here are some things would consider... Let me have it with your knowledge...

    1. Dwarf zebra lion and a Leaf fish or Sargassum fish (1 of the latter)

    2. An aqurium based around either a Flame angel or a Coral Beauty with some "nano" fish swiming around.

    3. I'm still wanting a Gymno Tile..

The Dwarf lions are usually pretty hard to keep. Feeding is usually a problem. The dwarf angel idea is neat. Although I think the mantis would not be good to keep with the angel because of possible ambush in the night.

A dwarf lion would be okay as long as you found one that was weaned off live food. They are super finicky eaters.

I might consider 30" of ribbon eel in a 29g to be a bit much. These can also be finiky eaters if they don't have some area to actually prowl around and hunt. Also if they are cramped for space, escape attempts will be hard to prevent. Something you might consider are some of the various species of cardinal fish (only tank raised Banggai) with a couple of pearly jawfish. They are the center of attention since they make their burrows in the front of the tank out in the open. If you do get jawfish have a sandbed at least 4" and provide them with plenty of rock rubble that they can use to construct their burrows. I have found pieces no larger than the end of your finger work best, but they can move some large pieces compared to their size. Give them plenty, they like to work. Mine reconstruct their burrows every time I give them some more rock. Very entertaining to watch especially if you have kids. BTW, mine are in a 60g remote refugium for my 200 gal reef with a pair of Banggai Cardinals. I also have a pair of Giant Indonesian Jawfish in the 200g.
