This may be another dumb question, but

my plan is to set my tank up in my shop, plumb it, fill it with water and run it/test it for leaks and make sure power outages won't result in overflows, etc. My question is can I fill it with well water and then drain and rinse with RO/DI or do I need to use RO/DI to fill it for the testing? Transporting 155 gallons of water from the house (where my RO/DI unit is) is not something I look forward to. If I'm going to introduce a significant amount of phosphate to my tank I don't want to risk it though.

What do you guys with the experience think?

You'll be fine testing it with tap water. I do it all the time.

    Hiya,

Agreed. I'd wipe it down afterwards, but for testing you should be fine.

Thanks guys! OK to clean up after testing with RO/DI and white vinegar 50/50 mix and then rinse with RO/DI? Any better way to get it clean before setting it up and aquascaping?

I'd chunk a gallon of vinegar in there with the tap water and let it sit 24 hours. Then get in there with a rag and a scraper to get it clean. It doesn't hurt to clean the tank with tap water. Just be sure to rinse the tank out after the vinegar (again with tap water) and dry it out a little. No point in hauling all that RO water out just to clean the tank. Set it up with RO, clean it with the hose.

Agreed... just use the hose to clean it and leak test it. Don't waste the resin.
