Tank Cycling Finally

  1. After getting my new JBJ 28g Nanocube set up I aquascaped my rock that I had taken to sdf_beanheads (aka Blake) to get seeded for about two weeks in his sump.  It is apparant that this was not enough time to get good and ready for the new tank as it has taken almost three weeks after complete set up to show signs of cycling. Test of the water have been all zero across the board untill yesterday.  I am know starting to see some of the brown diatomatious algae starting to build on the glass and substrate. I suspect that another three weeks now before I can realistically look at adding my bounty from the Memphis Frag swap. Sam has offered a frag of his purple monti cap to test the tank to make sure things are going to do well.  I have been pleased with how well the frags from the swap have done in my other JBJ 28g Nanocube that is dominated by Zenya and LPS. I purchased some black racks with magnets on them from a vendor that work great. (I will mention that Sam purchased some of these racks too and they would not hold through the thicker class of his tank)

  2. Good to hear the cycle is progressing Chris, post us some pics when you get a chance.
I am on day 13 of my new tank cycle (80% dry rock & 20% fresh LR & 2 deli shrimp) and my ammonia is still soaring... still no nitrites.  I figure I will get it cycles in the next 4-8 weeks, I like getting the cycle "right" and going real slow... I am trying to follow Prow advise in the below post - if interested.... a great read for anyone that wants to know more about what all happens when a tank cycles...
