Should I install a booster on my RODI?

Discussion in 'General Reef Discussion' started by cameronkclements, Mar 23, 2017.

  1. I have a BRS 6 stage RODI and I'm over the recommended psi of 50psi, but just barely. Im running 57psi going into my RODI. Does anyone use a booster for their RODI and what benefits have you noticed? Less waste water? Less resin usage? I'm also considering doing the 150 gpd upgrade to reduce waste. Thanks in advance for sharing.

I'm running just about the same PSI and my first batch of resin lasted 2 years. I can't think of any reason it would extend resin life significantly. At the PSI you're already running the rejection rate is probably in the mid 90's percent. A modest boost in rejection rate is not going to reduce the TDS your resin is removing much. My TDS post RO runs 0-2 depending on the day. If I recall correctly it would reduce waste water a little but if your making water fast enough to suit you I don't really think the booster is needed.

I don't think you would need one I have one but I have low house psi. They are usually on or off via a pressure switch, so you most likely won't find any benefits with having 57psi most ideal rodi psi's are around 50-60 mainly because thats what most average houses will have from the tap.
