My sand has suddenly started to turn an orangish color. It seems to have started mostly in the corners of the tank. Is this something I need to be worried about or is it some natural thing that is ok?

More than likely diatoms, it's part of the "new" tank process. You can google it for pics to compare. most of the time they fade away, some crabs, snails and such will eat them also.

yeah.. I am sure its a diatom bloom. Nothing to be alarmed with but it can get quite ugly for a little bit.

Get you a couple turbo snails and you'll never see it again!

We put 3 in our refugium for about 12 hours and the glass looked like it had been windexed!

Yep, looked at some photos and that for sure looks like what it is. Thanks for the info! I'll grab a few turbo snails on Friday and hopefully they'll help clean the place up a little bit. There isn't anything on the glass and the water is quite clear so hopefully they'll nip it in the bud.

Also, my shrimp seems to have shed some skin and antennas. I'm assuming this is normal. I know several things eat their exoskeleton. Should I leave it for him to munch on or should I take it out?

    Thanks guys!

I always just leave the shell, but I guess it's up to you. I'm not sure of any pros or cons of either.

I've had lots of algea blooms......think the cyano was the worst....covered just about everything......even some of the SPS I had. Two things that work for me.....Crabs....of course. And getting a Phosban reactor off eBay. That thing took my phosphate from 3.0(the maximum the test kit would test) down to 0.2 in less than a week. Since then......pretty much the only algae I grow is the nice pretty purple kind.......

just to clearify, cyno is a bacteria, not an algae.
