Made a little progress with the stand this weekend. Sides are on and most of the nail holes filled/sanded. Some of the trim is cut and ready but can't put it on till I get the front and door ready. A friend in my church is a carpenter and is going to help me with the front trim and door (I don't have a table saw or router which are needed to complete those projects) Got the tank soaking with some vinegar saturated paper towels. I sure hope that white stuff is calcium carbonate. Tail gate work bench.
Loved those tanks, had one myself, however always thought there was a flaw in the design. If the side drains were cut to be return lines and the top was cut down to be the overflow they would handle more water flow and wouldnt have to supplement flow by turning down the waterfall and adding pumps to get the flow needed. Awesome build though. Looking forward to seeing it done.
Well, it is a used tank and there will still be work to do for whoever wins it. Here is the stand, tank and sump in place.
The scale on the glass did not come off completely. Like David, I soaked it with two gallons of vinegar, Then I scraped with a razor blade and tried CLR (Calcium, Lime and Rust remover). Once the water is in it I am sure it will be less noticeable. I put the black film on the back, and tiled the waterfall. The tiles are pearlized and various shades of stone and sand. It reminds me of mother-of-pearl. The stand is so nice but it would not fit through any of the doors. I have standard 36" doors and even taking the door off the hinges it was an inch and a half too large. No fear, I am still going to paint it and use it on my back patio! I do not know why there is a bumblebee grouper attachment to this post. It is not mine! LOL
