This might be a dumb question,,,, What is the difference in the drinking water and the aquarium water that comes out of the RO/DI unit. I've noticed that some of the setups for drinking and aquariums have 2 separate lines.
some setups have a bypass around the di cartrige for drinking they say that di water is too pure for human consumption

Can you buy a diverter or something for RO/DI units, to divert the the water before it goes to the DI section, so you could also get drinkable water? My wife decide she might want drinking water after I ordered the RO/DI.
Yes. It's called a DI bypass. You can look on airwaterice.com and see if they sell them. I know they have them because I got my RODI from them and it has one on it. There are arguments on both sides about this. If you can drink RODI water. People say it will strip nutrients out of your body others say even if that's true it doesn't take all of what we eat out. For me, I have the DI bypass so I make and drink my RO water. It is the best stuff! I have drank RODI water for a week. No I'll effects, no loss of hair but it tasted no different than the RO water I was drinking. So, I didn't see it as being worth the risk.
What does DI, De-Ionization, mean and what does it do? It is the removal of mineral ions by using the ion exchange process. Using a mixed bed of anion and cation resins; ions, salts and minerals can be entirely removed from water. When the water goes through the di there is nothing but pure water going out and nothing else in it! Â There is now no nutrients in the water so it can not substain life. Drinking di water does not strip out nutrients out of your body! Â You can drink the waste water, it is almost the same as bottle water.
