Returning to the hobby in a new area!

Hey folks! I hope everyone is finding themselves in the Christmas spirits and their tanks are getting some extra love in the form of gifts or habitants during the holiday season!

Allow me to introduce myself a little bit here.

I live in Southeast Oklahoma - Poteau area (I know! Feel sorry for me already!). I am married to my wonderful wife and we have a little boy that turns 2 in January! The other family member that we have is a four legged member and her name is Maggie and comes in the form of a Boxer! We have lived in this area for roughly the last 4 years and prior to that we were based in the DFW area where the hobby is HUGE and very active! I sold off when we moved from the area and have been missing the hobby every since then.

This is not my first adventure in the reefing world and I am sure it is not going to be my last. My previous experience was with a 100 gal and then downgraded to a 40 gal breeder. With the 40 gal breeder, I had actually ventured into vodka dosing and the results of that were out of this world! At least that is what my findings were. The exact amount that was going on, don't quote me on it because I have no idea now. It's been 4 years ago! I feel in love with SPS, clams, and of course the live stock. I had a few LPS, but not a ton. My wife really enjoyed zoa's, so of course we had those as well! I try to keep her happy with her choices of a few things to keep me in the hobby. You all know that saying, a happy wife ='s a happy life! I am looking at getting back into the hobby this coming year. I keep going back and forth between a 40gal breeder again, as I love the depth and the width that it provides (we don't want something big due to the little man in the house. I'm not sure though, as I would love to go rimless with it and I personally do not feel comfortable with 1) drilling and 2) taking the top and bottom rims off of the tank. I like the whole rimless look. So, I go back and forth between a 40gal breeder or having one custom made for me through Planet Aquariums (based out of DFW and can only be ordered through a vendor) or through Deep Blue Aquatics. If I were to get one that is custom made, I am thinking of going 48 x 18 x 12. Who knows we'll see once I get the pricing back. If the cost is too expensive for my tastes on the tank itself, then I will go straight to a 40gal breeder and get it drilled to be RR. I would rather throw my money into either a vortech and/or a nice lighting fixture. I have been reading that LEDs are the way to go - so I am still researching that.

I was excited to see that there is a group not relatively too far away that I can attend meetings and etc. I am excited to get to meet all of you at some point when my schedule allows. I work for Apple currently and they keep us extremely busy during the holiday season! Woah!

At any rate - live on and happy reefing!

Welcome to Razorback Reef. Hope you start a build thread when you get going.

We usually have one meeting a year in Fort Smith (at our current VP's house) That is usually a great meeting and one that would be closer to you.

Would be interested in your experience with carbon dosing as I'm about 8 weeks in to vinegar dosing.

I didn't do vinegar dozing, but the vodka dosing I did do. Let me just say - my tank loved it! Absolutely just thrived with it!

I have started a build thread already!
