New to the forum and setting a tank up on a budget

Hi everyone im Andy, im going to be a new reefer in a week or two. So im planning on ordering the JBJ 28 CF-Quad next sunday before I leave for camp at orange, beach Alabama. So I was wanting to know if I can buy any sand and rock for cheap?

 

I have several hundred pounds of live rock for sale at $4 a lb. Also lots of sand, just let me know if you would like to come up and get some.

 

How much for 30 pounds of aragonite sand? do you also sell RO water?

And yes I do sell RO and salt water. 25¢ for a gallon of RO and $1 gallon for salt water.

I will come by in a couple of weeks. What do you suggest I bring for carrying saltwater?

 

They sell buckets at Lowes with lids on them. They work pretty great unless you are transferring tons of water.

 

Alright sounds great. Does your live rock have coralline algea on it?

 

Not a whole lot, some pieces do, but most of it has been in a dark bucket for awhile now. But, as long as you have one piece in there with it, it will spread under the right conditions.

 

Will that be hard when im setting up the aquarium and putting in the first of the water?

Welcome Andy, I started a 6 gallon JBJ about 7 months ago. Fun stuff!!!!

 

My aquarium just came in today, and it should be up and running by next tuesday!

Did you order it though Paradise Pets?

 

I ordered it from DR. Foster & Smiths, it was a great deal for $299.99 also came with a stand but that got destroyed when I stripped a screw and tore open one of the screw bores. No worries though I had a wrought iron stand and laid a couple of pieces of plywood on top. Also they are on sale till Sunday.

 

The stands are crap so anything is better than that. Please keep in mind the tanks are not made to be moved when they have water in them. Also make sure you have full support on the bottom. If not your looking at tank failure. Still a great tank just don't do more than they were designed for....
