First off, let me thank everyone ahead of time. I am from White Hall and am in the process a getting a first time Saltwater tank together. I am going to do a FOWLR starting out, no plans of doing corals...but i am sure I am not the first to make this statement. I have had many Freshwater tanks in the past and have always wanted to do a saltwater, but wanted to wait until I was at a location I planned on being for a while so I wouldnt have to disturb an established tank. I will list my plans and would love to hear feedback. I am buying a lot of used items off of Ebay for the hardware because it is cheaper. i figure if I fail I can get my money back on there and if I succeed I can always upgrade.

I have a 75 gallon aquarium. I am going to run a Rena Filstar xp3 cannister filter as a filter. I have heard I dont need one of these, but i dont have room for a wet/dry setup and really am using this to polish the water. i have gotten the 300watt in line Smartheater also for this filter. I am planning on purchasing a AquaC Remora Pro HOB protein skimmer. I can usually find this for a good deal on Ebay. I intend on using two Koralia#3's, one on each side of tank facing the opposite direction, and a SEIO 820 from the back blowing off the front glass for movement. I have not purchased any lighting but am watching Ebay for someone selling a decent set for a decent price. I want the lunar lights, but other than that Im not real picky as I dont intend on keeping any coral under these at this time. Just a decent brand that wont catch fire.

I have 120lbs of Caribbean Live Sand Original Grade to use as substrate. I am looking at the 50lbs of Key Largo base rock from Marco Rocks for $109 and free shipping and then seeding that with 25-30lbs of Live Rock from a LFS so I can see what I am getting. I don't have a ro/di system, but am planning on buying water from a LFS. They sell RO/DI as well as already mixed Saltwater, which should I get? I figure the RO/DI because i will eventually need to know how to mix my own.

Not set on livestock at the moment. I would like the usual beginner wants like a couple of clowns, a hippo, and a yellow tang. After tank is a little more established maybe a annenome and a starfish. What types of cleaner snails should I invest in and how many?

This tank is in a "in the making" stage now as I need to get all my parts at a slow pace (using extra money from here and there to buy everything). I would appreciate any input on my intentions and if you see something I have mentioned that is a NO NO, please help. I have been reading a lot and will be taking my time.I don't want to be one of these people that saw a saltwater tank at the dentist office and thought it could be done in a week.

to the RRMAS Forum, a nice site with lots of very nice members always willing to help[IMG]

Sounds like you are off to a good start... going slow, reading a lot & asking questions !

I will defer to others on the equipment questions, many members here know a lot more than I, related.

    All the Best !

On a sidenote... corals are more easy than fish, imo & lots of fun !

From reading your post it sounds like you might could use some of our things. We are trying to get out of the saltwater hobby; wife wants her kitchen back in order, so Im selling everything. We have over 60lbs of rock, live sand and fish including yellow and blue hippo tangs. Let me know if you are interested.

We also have coral, protein skimmer, bio wheel and light if you are interested.

We are selling the sand, rock and fish for 250. If you are interested in any corals we can make you a deal on them too...just trying to save you some money. Thanks for your time..

Thanks for the reply guys! Gosh Greg, I sure do wish I was that far along on my setup because I would love to get the live rock/sand and fish. But, I am still a ways away from having water in my tank and the cycle complete. My wife and I built this house two years ago and she just now gave me the okay to put the tank up. But, I am having to use my "Rat Hole" money for all my equipment so it is taking a little time. I am reading and soaking up all the info I can while I get all my tank parts. I appreciate the offer. I have an Uncle in Ohio that use to do Saltwater and he told me if he had any advice at all it was to find a local aquarium society. He said I will get more help there and I will always find people with things to sell. That has certainly been the case as I have been reading over all these forums.

However, I may be interested in the lights depending what they are and the price. i am not looking to do the $400+ plus setup on lighting just yet and I wouldn't dare ask you to lose money on your investment. But, if you have a set you think I may be interested in I would love to know what model they are and your asking price.

Once again, thank you all for your help.

Light still works if you are interested. Its an Omega Power Compact. It has two sets of white lights and two sets of purple/blueish lights. $75. Will work fine if you aren't growing any coral at this time.

Greg, how long is the light set up. I have a 75gallon so I am looking for around a 48" light with mounting legs.

I really wanted to get a light with the lunar lights, I know those don't do anything special...but they look nice. I was trying to find some reviews on an Omega PC and couldn't find any, is it manufactured my a bigger company? Thanks for responding.

Greg, I love this light. It is the right size, it mounts to the tank and doesn't hang from the ceiling, it has a fan, it has the lunar lights, and you are offering me a unbeatable price. I have sent you a PM.
