Hello! I told a few people at the last meeting that I lost six of my seven jellyfish due to an ammonia spike. This is getting expensive, and I was about to decide that jellies are out of my league. However, the company we get them from is replacing them since they died so quickly; I'll try to post some pics tomorrow. Hopefully third time's a charm!
These pics were taken shortly after acclimation. Four out of five appear healthy; the fifth (which is the largest--about 2 1/4 inches in diameter) rarely bells and did not eat much dinner. Hopefully it was just stressed from shipping and will pull through over the next few days.
That is so cool! I wish I had the time/place/money for all the dedicated tanks I'd like to have. Jellies, seahorses/pipefish, wrasse tank, FOWLR for angels/butterflies, predators, temporate (Catalina gobies and blue spotted jawfish), etc., etc.
Thanks! Drat-wonder why One Drive doesn't work? It says it can upload photos to social media sites. Do we have a site administrator?
Thank you! So far, so good. I survived another ammonia spike-still no clue how it happened despite intensive trouble-shooting with Sunset Labs. Now my biggest problem seems to be that my pH drops each time I add RO/DI water to offset evaporation and the water that gets removed during the cleanup following each feeding. The jellies are so sensitive that I'm only supposed to add six drops of liquid marine buffer to the sump per day, which doesn't offset the acidity of the water added. However--despite everything--the jellies are really growing! The biggest looks to be about three inches in diameter now~ It's super exciting.
Try aerating the RO/DI water before adding it. A simple air stone/air pump from the pet dept at Wally World will do it. Hope to see some more pictures soon!
