Crushed Coral or Sand Bed? That is the question.

  1. Which do you prefer? Good and bad experiences? I'm trying to decide which route I want to go.

My problems with crushed coral.....detritus trap, difficult to clean, limits fish choices (no sand sleeping wrasse..yikes!, no sand sifting gobies, jawfish, etc.)

I also like a coarser sand like Caribsea Special Grade aragonite. You can use more flow without worrying as much about a sand storm. I think it looks more like the ocean as well.

I agree with Doc. I only use Caribsea special grade. I've had crushed coral and coraline grew all over it. I thought it looked really weird to have a purple sand bed.
