My tank is a little over 3 months old but I first noticed this twig like thing in my live rock about a week after I set it up. It was smaller then but has grown over time. My fish don't seem to mess with it, and it hasn't caused any problems thus far. I have asked several other people what they think it could be, but no definate answer. Any guess would be appreciated! Thanks.

Very interesting! I have a rock covered in these in my dad's 14 oceanic biocube. Pretty neat actually. Just wait, as they grow they will secrete a calcium carbonate skeleton just as a coral would during growth; however, This seems to be a type of green algae that creates this hard skeleton. Warning: They Grow tall!!!

I don't know, I was going to guess some kind of plant, but maybe a tube worm of some kind. Leave it grow and see what developes, keep us abreast of it progress.

    Hiya,

My guess would be a macro algea...possibly Club Algea. Harmless as far as I know.
