air condition on the fritze, causing heat wave in my tank

We have had trouble with the airconditioning in my new apartment since we got it, I believe the repair men have "fixed it" seven times now.

I am currently sitting in my room with the thermestat reading a nice breezy 92 degrees. We can't get the people to come till wednesday which means my tank is currently around 87 degrees, I have had the heater off for two days now. I have no way of hooking up a chiller by the time it will be fixed. Is there something I can do other than completely turn off the lights to get the temp down.

I thought maybe throw a few ice cubes in the filter but wasn't sure.

    Any ideas/help would be amazing!!!!!

Might freeze some plastic water bottles & then put them in the tank and/or if possible have a fan blow on it.

I would not use ice cubes unless you freeze RO/DI water. The water bottles as suggested are what I have done in the past and works very well depending on the size of your tank. Don't drop the temp too fast. If they can be placed in a sump or filter box even better to avoid cold spots. Good luck, you should be fine.

Its a 29 biocube, so the water bottles should work, thank you guys so much!

We have used fans during the summer time and hooked them up blowing on top of the water...the bad part of it is that it evaporates the water rather quickly, but helps keep it cool...
    good luck

My main problem with keeping it was cool, was the fact that I have a snowflake eel, and if I leave the top off, he will normally escape. I now have my fish and starfish at petcountry for a few days while things get fixed.

I did however find that sticking the filter pad in the freezer and switching them out everyonce in a while helped get my temp down to around 84 which was way better than what it was.

Do you have corals? If so you can leave the lights off for up to about 3 days before they show any signs of stress.

Or just light the tank for an hour each day and that well be good enough for the corals

I had it set to run my lights two hours a day, everything survived, my fish have been put back in my tank, and I only lost one small frag of kenya tree .

I hope my ac doesn't go out again!
