This tank is going to be a budget tank.... I plan on making it a planted tank with multiple Algae to keep it clean. I have hoped that this tank would be a true breeding tank in the future but as for now I will just be putting it together. I might even ask what and where and take donations if I get any interest in that kind of way with it.... I purchased the tank for $40 bucks during Petco's sale. Stand is an old TV stand I had laying around from before the GF and I got together. I have an old Filter, and some old Pwr Heads that I plan on starting with. Here it is as of 9/02/10
Nice tank, I like the truck too. It must just be for showing cause the cord is too short to drive very far !!!!
And thats just ONE of the boys lego pieces.... We cleaned them out last night and he has a closet full of stuff like that. I don think the cord goes with it though. It belongs to a black light that is in his window...LOL
hey glad to see you picked up that tank. It didnt have a cricket in it? If so it was for feeding Bubba and Sunny at work. They are our display fish.
Okay... So The GF did like the look of the room. She didnt like the bed in the air anymore. So, I took the trusty Skill Saw and cut it down!....LOL Now that she has it arranged like she wants it I went and got some sand and added into it. I still need quite a bit more being this tank is going to have plants in it but hopefully that will be settled this evening. Till then.
I have used a little bit of everything TBO. The bottom has 40lbs of large sized crushed coral and then there is 20lbs of slightly smaller Araganite followed by a layer of ultra fine powered sand on top of that. I plan on getting some more of the finer sand to finish off the last 2 inches or so.
Well we had just enough water to fill it up tonight. We now have a stack of rock and have met the 4" minimum in sand (which is a ton of sand) and it has a couple pumps along with a filter. Now just need to add a cover, a light, and a heater and I think we will have it made and ready for some growing $175 in it as of today.... over shot the $300 as of today but not by much... re-figured at $350...LOL So far so good though.... I do think I could have saved $20 on sand but mehh... It is still coming together as planned.
Clear... Now I just have to put the light on it. Then the next step is to do a water change on my big softy tank and add that water to this tank... I am going to rotate them out like such b/c the softy tanks water params are great and it has elevated nitrates that I think will make this tank flourish!!
Yours is coming along a lot faster than mine. I just got some sand in today so looks like I'll be mixing water this weekend. It looks great!!
Thanks Norman!! Light fits perfectly... I have to make the legs I have work but It looks great! Total so far is $350
The new tank is looking good. I really like these tank build posts, make me want to build another tank.
