Hey everybody, I’m looking at purchasing a 180 that’s already set up for 4 years. It’s a fish with live rock tank. Comes with everything, live rock, sump, protein skimmer , lights, even an RODI setup. Comes with fish also . I’m looking for advise on what I should do if I purchase as far as taking it down and moving it 60 miles and resetting back up. I’ve had a 55 and a 75 gallon set up before but never this big and have no experience in setting up with sump or setting up the RODI. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
If it was me I would start completely over. Might use rock after it dried out for a couple days but thats it. If you want to keep the fish you Could set up a smaller qt tank so you could have a place for them while you take your time setting up your tank.
So you can do it the way you want. Also of fish don’t get along with others you may want. Coral may not be what you want to keep. But the main reason I would just use someone else stuff is you never know what’s in there. Could have fish disease, parasites, or just criders you don’t want to have. If you set it up have a problem it’s a lot harder to deal with then to just do it right the first time.
Did you end of getting the setup or did you pass. Bo and Jake are right its always easier to start from scratch. I had a system crash and as much as I could save on reusing rock and everything I am starting my 180 build with fresh everything. My fish will go into a qt until the 180 is cycled, also my corals will go into my frag tank system and I'm likely going to dip and clean every mother colony and just chunking my smaller frags that i have replicates of.
