Check this out: I never understood what a real skimmer can do. This skimmate from my Euro-Reef RS-180 is three days worth from my new tank with 20lbs of rock, water and sand -- no other critters.
I am also a fan of a good skimmer. I think that is one piece of equipment you should get the best you can afford,(not always the most expensive.) I have recently started using 2 of the coralife 220 for my 400 gal and am very pleased. Very easy to adjust and service. I will be adding sumps and skimmers to my other tanks very soon.
