Well if any you were following my 135 FOWLR build. My tank has cycled and has held a Red Sea Starry Rabbitfish for 3 weeks and a Volitan Lionfish for 2 weeks. My biofilter is holding up well. No traces of ammonia or nitrite. I have decided to go with several large fish rather than a bunch of tiny fish. Knowing the fish I have in place does anyone have any other stocking suggestions. I was thinking of Goldentail eel or a Snowflake, one of the various Tangs and one of the smaller big Angels. I have about 137lbs of live rock and plan on adding 33 more pounds in the near future.

your going to run out of real estate quick in a 135 with big fish. the lion in itself will get big for that tank and spread almost the width possibly stinging anything that tries to pass him once he is full grown.

i would go with a snowflake over the golden personally but thats just my preference. for tangs i would either go powder blue or purple. they can both hold their own well in an aggressive tank. for an angel maybe a magestic or blue face since they stay smaller

I like the snowflake. I may only add the eel without the fish mentioned. As the adult size of the lion will be rather large. I do not want an over crowded tank and possibly an injured fish due to an accidental impalement by the lionfish. My rabbitfish will also obtain a mature size of about 16 inches. Possibly an angel and a snowflake and no tang. Decisions :)!!!!!!

  4. I am glad that when their is talk about fish only tanks it is typically always with live rock these days. Fish do so much better with feeding when their is live rock in a system. It passed my mind several times on my new 180 to make it only a fish only. I will see how things go as an sps and may even consider fish only in the future.

what will be your biofliter, the sandbed. I was talking to a person NSA and they had recomended ceramic rings fully submerged in a sump. They have a huge surface area for bacteria growth. With the use of filter socks to keep detritus from collecting around the rings. As my fish grow I may end up having to move some of my rock to the sump to free up space and only leaving the large pieces in the display.

they were probably talking about hagens biomax or something similar. it is an excellent bio media but like all others it does need cleaning and stops up eventually and has to be replaced.
