Below you will see why everyone's recepticles around their tanks should be GFCI (ground fault circuit interupter). This is what April found this morning when she hear a loud "POP" followed buy a burnt plastic/electrical smell. Fortunatly she was off work and at home today... All I can figure is a thin layer of salt creep built up. The funny thing about salt creep is that it attracts moisture. An arc jumped between the hot prong to the ground prong. As soon as I got off work I headed to Home Depot and picked up a new GFCI recepticle and installed it... after I scrubbed the char off the wall.
Whoah! Good catch April. made a beleiver out of me - I'll be putting hubby to work on that! Was your tank without power for long? Glad to know that nobody was hurt (I hope?).
Guess I'd better as some GFCI's to my list of thing's to do. I'd glad you posted this it's a big help. Good save April!
Well I DON'T think I will try to burn the house down. And by the way the breaker never tripped. My power heads are on battery back up, and april ran an extension cord down the hall to power those up and another for the 55gal. Also when I felt of the recepticle and the plug they felt a little wet.
