Like the title I am wondering what combo of bulbs that everyone is using. I am going to retrofit my Maxspect Razor with 2 T5 bulbs and was wondering what everyone thought would be the best two bulbs to buy. Anyone with a knowledge of T5's or any input is welcome. Also I will be sticking around till December now and can't wait to get back to meetings 21 college credit hours has kept me very very busy.
I run T-5's a four bulb set. I run an blue, a pink, a white and a lagoon blue. I like the blue caste a little better. Kim/Benton, AR
Tagging along, very interested. Those that respond can you give the brand of bulb and color. Anyone multiples of one color?
Doc has a great point. What brands along with specific names would be great, there are just a ton of bulb names. Kim is the blue your using regular blue or blue plus? I usually try to order all my stuff from Bulk Reef Supply because they offer a rewards program and they often have everything you would ever need. Also does anyone have the lights hooked up to a controller for dimming or features of that nature?
I guess I should chime in since my 125 is T5 lit. Without a doubt, ATI and Geiesman are the best. I run ATI exclusively in my fixture. This is my combo from front to back in my 6 bulb fixture. Aquablue Special, Blue Plus, Purple Plus, Blue Plus, Blue Plus, Aquablue Special. Since you are only talking about 2 bulbs, I am not going to give you my two cents. Instead, I am going to post two videos regarding T5. Please watch them in order. They have a lot of useful information. John
John you are the best I remember watching both of these months ago but couldn't remember what they where called! great videos
Very good info in the videos. I am thinking of swapping to t5 soon or add a couple bulbs to go with the LEDs. From all the reading and research it seems LED alone is somewhat hit or miss.
After seeing the way your tank looks, I'm going to go to t5s. I like the visual look that your setup has. No matter what I do with the LEDS I can't get the look I want. That and the fact that your growing the crap out of corals. Lol
Thank you. Not all fixtures are created equal. Make sure it has highly polished INDIVIDUAL reflectors. In other words, each bulb has a reflector. It isn't 1 giant reflector.
The pictures from my phone kind of suck. The first 3 are with running just 2 bulbs the blue+ and true actinic. The last is all 6 bulbs. Well after seeing this thread and the videos that John posted I made the switch to t5s from LEDs. I went with the 6 bulb 48" ATI Sunpower with, from front to back, Coral + Blue + Purple+ Blue + true actinic Coral+ Absolutely love the color I'm getting. Thank you John for answering all the question I had on the lights.
