Marti, you dont need one. You have an overflow.

That design is very similar to what was on Norman's 440.

I made one of these this past weekend and tested on a couple of empty tanks I had, but it doesn't seem to have alot of flow. I might not have made large enough cuts on the suction end, but overall it is fail safe because of the trap on it. I'm thinking of making one with larger pipe sometime just to see if it will pull more water in. I only made it for a 20h tank and its alot cheaper than store bought overflows for those of us without drilled tanks. I made this one for about $17. This one would work good for small tanks.

  7. Sam how much water flow do you feel that you are getting through the siphon?

I,m running A quiet one 3000 on it which is rated at around 700gph and I didn't put a valve on it . It keeps up with the pump just fine. The head pressure on the pump is about 3 feet, So maybe 500gph its up and running if anyone want to see it work.

I forgot to take into account the line lock tee and the three 90's on the return which takes the gph down considerably. May be more like 300 gph, that is my guess.

  10. This is a geat video for understanding the super sucker concept. It is very basic at the beginning but watch the video all the way through and he has a color coded example of a super sucker that explains why it works. Nice educational video.
