i am trying to figure out what and how many more fish I could put in my 125 gallon that already has a dogface, porcupine, niger trigger, yellow tang, and a snowflake eel. I know I am already pretty close to being full but was thinking of maybe one more good size one that swims a lot like the niger and yellow are maybe a couple of smaller ones that can hang in with these guys. My wife really wants a humu humu trigger and I would like it to but I have been told it would not go with the niger even though I have seen it done, so was just trying to get some ideas on some fish to go in there.

Harlequin tuskfish (also a wrasse), dragon wrasse, V-tailed grouper, maybe lunare wrasse, red coris wrasse, pomacanthid angels. Wrasse, grouper/hinds, butterflies, and larger angels do quite a bit of swimming.

If you want movement, definitely put in a wrasse. They are always on the move and should be able to hang with them.

Are you serious? You already have three fish, not counting the eel that potentially grow to 12in length. And most of the suggestions offered are terrible, being again too large for your tank. It is irresponsible to trade in fish because they outgrow their home. Pet stores will sell anything to anybody and this hobby gets treated like "a kid in a candy store." I really do expect great advise to be given from a "marine aquarium society." I too have made irresponsible purchases, but thankfully I had people tell me so. We all see the 2in tang and trigger (or puffer) and think of the ocean, and how pretty they'll be in our home, but they only belong in large aquariums. They grow up!! Pet stores will never stopping selling inappropriately, so it is up to us to make wise decisions. Come on reefers......very disappointing......this is part of the reason I gave this site up.

The eel gets 3ft. and minimum tank size is 30 to 40 by itself. Most of the pomachanthid angels can be housed in 125 and up. The Puffers will take a while to get a good size. The Niger is perfectly fine in a tank that size. So is the tang. The question was what fish could he add that does quite a bit of swimming that could hang in with these fish. I believe we answered that question. This is my opinion on what he could add.
If the suggestions are terrible then what would you suggest?

Also everybody keeps they're tanks differently so what works for one person may not work for you. So take advice how you want. I know of a reef member now that keeps a Harlequin Tuskfish, 2 Blue Jaw triggers, blue assesor, a pamocanthid angel, and some kind of wrasse. I have seen this tank in person and will tell you they are all happy together.

Oh boy here we go with the fish police again. Really? As Whitney said it takes a while for puffers to get to a size where they outgrow a tank. Also, since neither they or the eel are very active swimmers I can't see where a 125 would be a problem in the foreseeable future. I honestly can't see a problem with that setup. I'd personally add a few more fish just for swim factor.

Also, why is it irresponsible to trade in a fish when they outgrow your available space? I would think that it would be more responsible to allow your pet to go to a home where they'd have more space rather than confining them to a space where they're movement restricted.

Looks like we have another difference of opinion. That's as far as it's going to go. I have had complaints about content and attitude already and if we can't be civil and just accept each others opinion without flaming this thread will be locked and the discussion ended. This is not my decision, but I will do as the club wants. Lets just be grown-up and respect each other.

I believe as a whole very good and correct advice is given on this site. We will not always agree and should think and reread our posts before we click post reply. Lets consider our wording and the tone it could be taken in.

A rabbitfish would be a good addition, harlequin tusk fish, a clown fairy wrasse or a red coris wrasse, a powder blue tang or sailfin tang, any of the angels save the dwarfs, a decent sized hawkfish. Any of those would be a beautiful addition to the tank and with the exception to the hawkfish, all would provide a flash of color and movement in there.

Just to let you know. Depending on your feeding habits you may run into water quality issues adding much more.

I hope you have a decent filtration system / good amount of live rock.

Anyhow. The above suggestions of tangs, angels, various other mid sized fish would be fine.

I like the wrasses that people have said and have thought about an angel but most of the ones i like are going to get to big for what I have so if anybody has any good ones that would fit in mine would be great. As far as pet stores giving bad advice and letting people do what they want, I will let you know that both The Fish Tank and Northside Aquatics both have steered me away from doing some of the things I wanted to add and told me it would not work. Whitney also has helped me when I have gone in to Petco and racked his mind about ideas I have had. This is the reason I am on here asking this question so I can get some ideas I may not have thought of yet. Also for sdf_beanhead I have around 100 pounds of live rock a 30 gallon refugium with a skims sm 161 and filter sock, and I vary my feeding from day to day. I sometimes go a day or two with out feeding and some days I feed maybe twice but that is my small stuff like mysis or brine with some flakes, so I would think i am doing ok with that right. Also in my first post I asked about the humu humu trigger for my wife would y'all suggest that if it was the only thing i added and nothing else. Thanks for all the advice I have gotten also I will try and put some pictures on here of my setup also.

I know your looking for more of a swimming fish, but a nice medium sized lion would be sweet, but I might be a little bias on the subject :)
