I've got a 4' 65 gallon mixed lps/sps reef. I need some good skimmer recommendations for an in sump skimmer. I've got about a 8" x 9" footprint to place it. What are y'all using for skimmers?

There are several that are good quaity and would fit in your space. Aquamax EM 100, Bubble Magus Curve5 and a couple of Reef Octopus (1000 LSS and Classic 110 space saver) all would do a good job.

Ok thanks I will check those out. Gotta upgrade because all I have ATM is a coralife super skimmer.

Also look at the ASM line of skimmers. They are great for the price and the only skimmer I use.

Is the coralife skimmer giving you the impression it's not doing good?

I'm using a coralife skimmer and it seems to do the job. It is picky to set but I can get it to dry skim. I did change to a magdrive with a skimmer wheel.

It does ok right after it is cleaned top to bottom. Then a day or two later its like it won't pull any skimmate out at all

It may be the stock pump I've always thought it was a little weak.

Wow that's what I use for a return pump. Is it not too much flow for the skimmer?

With the wheel modified as a skimmer wheel it works great. Also when you introduce air to the pump it's volume decreases.

I run the pump wide open with no restrictions. I jut make adjustments with the skimmer adjustment.

If you look at the skimmer wheel for the mag it just has slots in the impellers. I used a dremel to cut the slots and it works great.

I need to clean it up soon, the bubble output has gone down some. I'm sure the impellers needs to be cleaned, I will take some pictures of it. Also the skimmer is very picky about the depth the pump sets below the water surface.

When the pump is clean the reaction chamber is completely filled with a froth of bubbles. Like I said I can get it to dry skim.

Which CSS do you have? The depth on mine is between 7-7.5"

I have a CSS 65. I want to say the intake of the pump is about 3" below the water surface. I have a stand made to hold the pump higher.

The reaction chamber is about 2/3 with bubbles. After I clean the impellers it will be over 3/4 to the entire chamber.
