Could you turn a ordinary shop light that has florescent bulbs into a T-5 fixture? I imagine you could but just thought I should ask!

You would probably need a ballast and to make sure the end caps were the right size. Most shop lights either use T12 our T8, so the end caps prolly aren't the same

so it would probably be cheaper and easier to buy a t5 fixture?

Cheapest would prolly be a retro fit. End caps are about $10 per set and you can get workhorse ballasts for around $50. Then cost of bulbs

shop lights normally have a ballast that only works on a T8 bulb, so by the time you get a new ballast and new end caps you could just have gone with some water proof end caps and mount them to retrofit the lights.
