For some reason I have I problem keeping my salinity up at 1.026. That's what I mix it at but I usually have to top off with saltwater every once in a while because the tank goes to 1.024-1.025.
So where do you keep your salinity at, and this may be a dumb question but what do you mix it at also?

It really depends on what you are keeping in your tank / system. what livestock do you have?

1.024-1.026. If mine is somewhere in that range I don't sweat it

Yeah it's not a big shift and I'm sure it's from filling deli cups and dipping stuff then putting fresh water back in.

    Hiya,

I try to keep mine around 1.025, but it if fluctuates a little, I don't panic. I do notice my astri (sp) stars are more active if my salinity is at this level. I mix at this level too.

I'd bet is from your ATO making up what you take out when you sell stuff.

Keep mine 1.026, mix the same though mine does creep up a little bit, probably due to dosing two part.

I try to keep mine around 1.024-1.025 and mix the same. Like David my salinity creeps up due to two part dosing. My thought on salinity is, you don't want to stay at the upper limits so that you have a little margin for error.

1.025. But I check with a hydrometer, and I'm really unsure of the accuracy. I have a refractometer on my to buy list, but still haven't gotten around to it.

    Hiya,

They're not really accurate. I take a sample to a store with a refractometer and get them to test my salinity. Then I use a hydrometer on my tank and mark the difference. I've found mines off by .001.

That's not too bad, they can be off by much more. Allen I got mine for $29 off Amazon. Then found out it's the same as the jbj refractometer just didn't have their sticker on it.

    Hiya,

This one isn't..the last one I had was .004 off. So, when I thought it was 1.026, it was really 1.030.

Thanks. I'll probably buy one in the next couple of weeks. I know I really need to make the switch. $29 seems like a really good price.
