I have 2 returnsand 4 drains(overflow returns) from tank to sump. My returns don't seem to be working as well as they should. They are basically 1.5 inch pvc with caps. directly under caps there are notches cut, which water from overflow enter and water directed to sump. There is a whole drilled on top of caps. They are about 20"high.

The right side of overflow works better than left. On left there tends to be from 1" to 5" of water over caps(level always varying). The left side is also noisey. On right the water stays is same position which is at below top of caps. The varying water level on left also makes my auto-refill of kalk a problem, because sump level goes up or down depending on how much water is collecting in left overflow. (tank is level)

I would like a help with design on redoing drains for proper water movement back to sump that is also quiet. I am thinking using same sort of design that is on my other tank, but that tank has only one return and smaller. It is the typical return that comes with storebought drilled tanks.

I think I can use 1.5" pvc with some sort of 90 degree top with hole on top and maybe strainer at opening.
    If that makes any sense?
Any help would be appreciated. I Could either build or consider buying if overflow of 1.5" dia. can be bought. Drs foster
has them for tanks but I think they are to small.

I have 260 gal tank with barricuda pump.

    Thanks

Two popular types of standpipe are the dursco and the stockman, the dursco is basically a tee with an elbow pointing down at the water line with the pipe then extending up for vent. This style takes a little more room then the stockman. The stockman is built from two larger end caps glued together with a hole for the 1.5" pipe to fit into and slots cut for water to enter.
You can do a google on these and should find the info on how to build one.
I use the stockman on my system and it works good, if you live in hot springs your welcome to swing by sometime and see how it works

Are they the same height? It sounds as if one end of the drain is submerged further than the other side creating resistance were the water exits into your sump.

Thanks for advise. I am interested in the stockman style standpipe. One return is about 1/2 inch lower than the other and I felt like this may be a problem. Ameno thanks for inviting me to see yours and if I have problems I may take u up on that offer.
    Thanks Alot
