Ok so I have this terrarium that my chameleon used to inhabit

My mother has finally decided to accept my crazy fish hobby and wants me to try and convert my old terrarium in a tank such as this

The terrarium has doors so the part that can hold water is 17x17x5.5 inches which holds about seven gallons of water.  she loves the idea of mangroves and rocks breaking the barrier .

With limited space and the fact that I can't hang a filter anywhere, I'm considering using a fluval u2 internal filter and hide it behind rocks that break the barrier.  Using a led 65k light for the mangoves and and 2 inches of sand (not sure if mangroves need more sand but I don't have much room for more).  Long term she wants a mandarin goby and a few inverts only in the tank so there wont be big bio load. The other thing she has mentioned is designing the tank above the water line such as you would a koi pond with a small looking bridge, stepping stones and a water fall in the corner. So basically a nano koi pond for saltwater. oh and an auto top off due to a small water volumte and an open top tank basically.

I think i can handle it but wanted a second opinion and if anyone had any awesome ideas or know of something that won't work I'm more than welcome to suggestions!!!  Be brutal!  I'm really excited to do something like this for my mom and want to work perfect for her.
