For some time I debated about drilling the aquarium but Greg pointed out how thin the glass was in these aquariums and the number of people that have successfully drilled there tanks only to have them crack at the bulkheads when they are moved. I went with a top of the line in overflows by Life Reef and so far very pleased.  There is little to no noise and it is working flawlessly.  The sump was put together in a DIY acrylic workshop put on by Kevin Koplen months ago. I was most excited about adding mechanical filtration to the system via the filter sock going into the sump.  I really feal that the heavy feeding that reef tanks require are served well by a filter sock expecially when there are not many animals in the system as is the case with my tank at the moment. I removed the false back to the aquarium that was a divider for the stock intank filtration and left the top support bar for the hood which worked out perfectly as it was not integrated into the plastic devider.  The divider was siliconed in and only needed a razor blade to get it loose all the way around and remove it.  I was able to do this in one piece. I gained about 20% more room in the tank by removing this seperator and I also removed the black exterior masking that was on the tank which now lets me view the extra room that I have.  More room ment more live rock which was donated to my by Jeff Long from the ton that he got from Sam Grimmett in purchasing his tank - what goes around comes around as the club is constantly recycling among members. With more rock added comes more filtration in the system.  The stock JBJ aquarium ran two pumps on either end of the intank stock filtration and with two small power heads that is a total of 4 pumps generating alot of heat in a small system.  With the sump I have eliminated two of these pumps have only a bit larger return pump and a maxijet for circulation controlled by a ReefKeeper in pulse mode.  With the sump addition I have increased by water volume by about 10 gallons and the surface area to go along with it which also helps in cooling.  My temperatures over the 7 months of negelect of this tank often ran as high as 90+ degrees which caused massive algae problems. My rebuilt system has been running for two days now and I have only notices the chiller coming on once and it was 90 degrees today. The temp. in the tank on the controller is fluctuating a degree around 78 which is ideal. I am really pleased with the changes that have been made to make this a great system and it has definitly rejuvinated by passion for the hobby. Apathy and Neglect of my aquarium was really taking a tole on me as it was not far to the animals that I am keeping. So this is my record so I can do some videos over time to see my progress. [/p:3tyzs0yz]
