I have lost 8 fish to ich over a month ago. Then I removed all the remaining fish and put them in quarantine. I bought fish to replace some of the ones that dies and put them in quarantine too. I kept all fish in quarantine with copper for 30 solid days then slowly started adding them back to the diaplay. After about 4 days the blue powder tang and hippo tang are now completely covered in ich. I don't know what I did wrong. And help will be appreciated greatly bc I can't afford to keep replacing these fish and don't have the time to do all this extra work. As far as the quarantine tank goes, salinity 1.020 Temp 82 93 gallon cube Bare bottom Pvc pipes for hiding Sump with skimmer Led lights on 10 hours a day Air stone and two power heads Once a week water change of 50 % Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
Tangs get ich when there stressed one thing that I found that helped me was a uv sterilizer. All fish have Ich it's only when there stressed that It comes out. Do u feed with garlic.? They say that helps too
Is your display tank and quarantine the same parameters if there off a little that could be some of it
I believe you need to leave your display tank fallow for at least 6-8 weeks and the longer the better. I know some who have left theirs fallow for 3 months. If you put them back in to the display too soon, the ich that is dormant on the live rock will just reinfect your fish. David is right, too. Your fish will be more likely to succumb if they are weak or stressed. If the tank is overstocked or not much swim room for them, they will be stressed. The recommended tank size for a powder blue is 125g and 180 for a hippo tang. You did the right thing with the copper treatment. That is the only proven treatment for ich.
I believe that is the issue, whippetguy. Sounds like time to catch the fish and quarantine again I'm about to go crazy with this ich. My tank is a 180gallon. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
That is the display tank is 180. It's the quarantine that is 93 Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
Cool, hope you can get it sorted. I know this hobby can have its ups and downs. Just don't let this bump in the road get you too frustrated.
I'll chime in for whats its worth. I can def feel your pain Seth. I'm on the backend of fighting off a Velvet/Ich outbreak in my tank that cost me some of my most prized tangs (some had been with me for over a year). About 2 months ago I had an outbreak rip through my tank and claim about 8 fish in a matter of 3 days. Like you I fished out the rest and have had them in copper for about 7 weeks now and main tank has been fallow this whole time. Only thing I would caution is to do not add anything to the DT for the full time you plan to go fallow. I've read that even adding rock or new corals without proper quarantine can reintroduce the parasites into the system thus starting the vicious cycle all over again. My DT has been left dormant since I removed all my fish and only thing I've done is kept up with water changes. On the bright side, my corals have never looked better! LOL. David I definitely plan on looking into a UV for when I add them back into the DT.
