I hope he doesnt mind me posting a thread on this build im doing for him. Thought you kids might wanna follow along. This stand started as a in wall that he got from someone that we are converting to a piece of furniture.

    The Beginning!!

    Tearing it apart
    [IMG]

    Torn apart...dont worry Ralph!!!

The first face frame on...this will be a walk around tank so each side will mirror the other.

The other face frame being glued up..

the plywood sides will come off next and oak will go back on...then for trim doors and a few hours of sanding..

Then I will start the canopy

I am excited to see this thread!! Then I scrolled down and seen it taken apart. Right now Thomas is laughing his butt off knowing I am probably freaking out!! If I have not seen your work already I would be worried. I am glad to see you posted this as I have to work to Monday, and have been curious so far.

Are you reinstalling the 2x4's for support later? You should have seen my face when I scrolled down to pic #3!! It was a Mastercard moment "Priceless"!!

yes the 2X4's are going back but they will be somewhat narrower. Reason being they are now joined to 13/16 solid oak and the span is less than before. I really believe it will be plenty beefy at least what it was before if not more. Both face frames are now on and I will try and get the ply on tomorrow before work. It much more reinforced than my 125!! Ill take more pics. Ill also redo anything you dont like

I really dont think it needs the extra 2X's but they wont hurt for peace of mind...this gives you a true 3 inches of wood to take weight

Where did you find matching tile???? Looking good

Unfortunatley it does not match. I bust out the front row along the old tank, and only about 1/2" shows. On the sides about 3/4 of a 12 x 12 tile shows. Its not too noticable, but you can see the difference. They manufacturer stopped making that tile a couple of years ago.
