Hydor Nano 240gph Powerhead

  1. I have purchased two of the Hydor Nano 240gph powerheads for the nano's that I have set up.  It is amazing to me that to date there are no generic power heads that have been designed to work with wave makers over a long term.  I really like maxi jets with the moded impellers but they start chattering after several months if your are lucky for them to last that long.  The newly designed Hydor does not promote its use with wavemakers at all but I have hopes that they will do better.  I have had them for about a week now and they have yet to chatter, only time will tell.  I like the fact that they have a magnet for attachment that is centered inside a suction cup, so it has the power to stay in place over time, again only time will tell. The rotation and adjustment of the powerhead in the tank is by a round ball on the end of a peg attached to the powerhead.  Adjustment is dependent on the integrity of the rubber that it fits into and I suspect over time that this might be a failure point. If the rubber that holds the ball were to become damaged in anyway the powerhead would no longer be able to be adjusted and would sag down, I will let everyone know how it holds up.  The flow is perfect for my 28g JBJ Nano and the price is great ranging from $20 to $35 dollars depending where you get them.  LFS have them at the upper end which for me is an expectable markup for me to not have to pay shipping and wait for delivery.  Currently I rate this a great product but my assessment may be changed over time.

  2. Nice review Chris !

I have a nano, I have been using it in my rsm 130d to add flow behind my rockscape that is against the back wall, been running 24 hours a day for over six months no problems & I love the small size, you can barley see in, I hate the big ugly powerheads.
I want a Vortech MP10 ($240) by for the price the Hydor Nano 240gph Powerhead is a great value !
