How did you get started?

So the other day I started thinking about my first aquarium I had nearly 5 years ago for some odd reason and how fascinated I was with every little thing about the inhabitants in my tank. So I was wondering how everyone else got their start into this hobby.

About a week before I started my Junior year of college I was using Stumble Upon and stumbled liveaquaria.com and was looking into getting a small ten gallon aquarium for my apartment for a pair of clown fish. After searching around on live aquaria for two days or so I finally stumbled on Lion fish. Which as you all know by now, I'm addicted to. So I spent the last few days of my summer vacation learning everything I could about dwarf zebra lionfish.

After getting situated in my on campus apartment and asking my roommates if I could put a 30 gallon tank on the bar/room divider, I made a trip to Pet Country with my best friend to check things out. About two hours later I was walking out of the store with a 29 gallon biocube, 30 pounds of sand and a few pieces of dry rock. Going back for live rock and water the next day. A month later I was finally ready and ordered a dwarf zebra lion, and an 8 inch snowflake moray.

I miss that aquarium some days :)

I also recently acquired a piece of that kenya tree which was my first coral i ever bought. Still my favorite piece and I have been babying the frag for a month now and it has doubled in size!

    Hiya,

I got my love of aquariums from my dad. He used to raise guppies and mollies when he was young. He'd sell them back to the local store for a penny each.

Got my first tanks, fresh when I moved out and went to college. The largest one I had at any one time was a 65 gallon. I used to raise angels in 10 gallon aquariums while in college. Not very successful at it. My first two years in college were spent studying Marine Bio. I knew one day I'd have a saltwater tank.

So after moving to Arkansas and moving in with my now husband, which was about 17 years ago, I got a 29 gallon fish tank and converted it to a reef. They didn't have the bio cubes back then. With Kevin's help I was able to get it up and running quickly. I bought a 40lb back of argonite, 25 lbs of live rock a box of dead rock and RO water. Tank cycled in less then two weeks due to the liverock. Had that tank for about 5 years, then upgraded to the 46 bowfront. Got it at an auction at Reefest at Kevin's store. That's been my baby until a few weeks ago when the 75 went up. Which I need to get pictures of and posted on my tank thread.
