Well my 90 gallon finally has a big brother. This tank is a 240 gallon that is plumbed through the wall into a 75 gallon sump that has a 55 gallon refugium that sits on the stand above it. There are four 1" drains and a quiet one 6000 for the return. I got this tank in September of 2009 and have been in no hurry to get it up and running, and today Chris and I finally installed the canopy that I have built that has eight 24 inch t-5's for color and three 250 watt metal halides with new lumen max elite reflectors that were purchased from Christmas Coral Farms as well as the t-5's. The canopy has bi-fold doors because I though it would look cool and it had to be done that way or it would have hit the ceiling when opened. The tank has had water in it for about four weeks now and is on the tail end of the cycle. I have about 150 lbs of live rock in the display and 40lbs. more in the refugium. I plan to move the rock from the 90 gallon over the course of several months and will be reaquascaping the tank when the 90 is empty. So this is not the end aquascape but it will have to do for now. Here are the pics from start up to today. Take a look and tell me what you think.
Sam, It's beautiful. We are so happy for you guys. That's gonna be a real show stopper. What ballasts and reflectors did you wind up going with? Looks like we are gonna have to buy a new tank since the deal we found kinda fell through. What do you think about a 4 foot 120 from glass cages?
Looks great Sam. I'm just wondering what you're trying to suck out of that pipe under the tank !!!! Chris has a way of catching people in just the right positions.
Very Nice!!! So are we going to have a monthly meeting at your house soon? I'm sure alot of us would like to get a closer look. Did you fibricate your own light brackets? Good Job
Thanks for the complements. I built everything but the tank. The light bracket came with the reflectors and was then attached to the wood frame. Norman as for the pic in question my wife took that pic and I think she might be getting camera lessons from Chris. I believe all the meetings for this year have been scheduled but if any of you are around Benton and I am home your more than welcome to stop on by and take a look in person.
You are lucky you have long arms - I would need a snorkel to aquascape that tank!!! Not to mention someone to hold my feet. Nice job, That thing is going to be magnificant. Congrats!
It is a good thing I'm tall thats for sure. I have to use a three step ladder and I can barely reach the bottom. If I need to reach the bottom in the back of the tank I might be looking for a snorkel myself LOL.
I have added some of my fish and most of the hard corals from the 90 gallon and can't believe how small it all looks in this tank. Looks like I might be needing to get a few more frags to fill this thing in. And my tangs really like the caves in the aquascaping. These are not the best pics, I have been playing with the settings on the camera.
