What does everyone recommend for a cleanup crew these days? Just snails? If so, what kind? If not, what other critters are helpful?
i have been calling around for prices on clean up crews across the net and have gotten mixed results. but the common suggestions are nassarias,astreas, and turbo snails along with a couple conchs for sand stirring and a brittle star for detrious. depending on your stocking and if your willing to feed the brittle you may want to leave it out.
I know in my tank it seems that my crab mafia is stronger than my snail mafia. I see empty snail shells all of the time. I would add either crabs or snails, not both. I personally like the "Bumble Bee snails" They are small and seem to stay on the rock work more. The draw back is they don't usually get brought in by the LFS. Large snails tend to knock frags over and such.
