Hiya, Okay, I've always had a problem with keeping my PH up in any tank I've set up. I'd hoped that this matter would happen in the new one, but it is. I'm double dosing Seachems marine Buffer 8.3 and I can't get it up past 7.9. I did a 20% water change yesterday, lights were on for 4 1/2 hours, I use RO water only, the salt I use is Reef Crystals and my water is rippling on top. What in the world is wrong?!?! Kim/Benton, AR
Are you using the same ph test each time? Maybe it's the test that's the problem. Just a thought. Sent from John's Tapatalk
This evening when it's not so warm you might try opening some windows and running a fan. +1 on the possible test being wrong.
Ditto on the air movement. Low ph can be caused by something dead, high levels of dissolved CO2, or low dissolved O2. Air (fresh) movement & more light should help your ph if something has not gone belly up. I know there are chemical reasons that ph can go wonky but it never hurts to eliminate the obvious with a simple fix.
Hiya, I just bought a new test kit since the old one was outdated. I'm getting the same readings Northside was when they tested my water. I'm using a powder form. Northside did suggest I use Seachem's 8.4 and balance. I used to use that stuff over a year ago, but stopped using it due to cyno issues. Also, there is no lid on the tank. I'll try running the ceiling fans and opening the window's. The cat's love that! Kim/Benton, AR
whats your calc and alk testing u might try a kalkwasser drip that's what im doing and my ph stay around 8.0 to 8.3 +that's one of the reasons im fixing to switch from IO reef crystals low calc, mag, and ph
Hiya, Well, I opened the window's and ran the ceiling fans and my PH was up to 8.4...however! I double does the seachem 8.3 buffer a few hours before I tested. I'm inclined to believe it's the opened windows since I've dosed the powdered before and not had this kind of increase. I'll be testing my PH again tomorrow with the fans running. Unfortunately, unless I special order my salt, reef crystals is all I have easy access too. Kim/Benton, AR
hey kim i just seen this post i was using io reef crystals and i changed to red sea pro because i could not keep my ph cal or mag up with reef crystals but since i have changed my stuff stays were it needs to be
Hiya, David, I changed to Tropic Marine in August and everything looks good. I do need to get back into the habit of testing though. I'm relying to much on how my corals are looking. Kim/Benton, AR
I think alot of us seasoned aquarist get into that routine. Sometimes by the time you notice it most of the time its yoo late. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
I'm the opposite, a testaholic! It's probably due to being a newbie but I test way more than is probably necessary. My excuse lately is I just started dosing recently, though my Ca hasn't been outside of 420-430, my Mg outside of 1350-1380 and my Alk outside 8.3-8.6 for six weeks ( till 3 days ago). I can't seem to keep from testing every three days!
That's good keep it up. Keep records of your tanks parameters. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
Hiya, Since I started doing weekly water tests, I stopped testing, and Whit, I do believe you're correct. We get the tank balanced out and things looking good and just let things go/slide. Kim/Benton, AR
