By-Pass Controller for RO-DI and Kalkwasser Dosing

Discussion in 'DIY' started by schillerstreetreef, Jun 22, 2009.

  1. Allan has a great by-pass controller for those that are wanting to control the addition of Kalkwasser that is being fed by an RO/DI unit. It has worked like a charm for Allan and I am in hopes that it will for me too. I will post pictures when I get it installed. The diagram is attached to this post.

if you were running your fresh ro with a top off float then couldnt you bypass the other pump option and just run the kalk pump in a single series?

What's the point of this extra complexity?

The reasoning behind this set up is to prevent your PH from exceeding a certain point, since kalk raises your PH and there have been times when people have overdosed kalk to there system this setup would prevent this from happening, also if your ph is already high it would prevent adding kalk to the system at that time and just add frsh top-off water.
an electrical supply store and I have also heard that radio shack may have the DPDT relay.

I set up mine similar to Alan's by using a 10 gallon aquarium for my reservoir feeding to my kalk reactor into the sump. I used a auto top off and a aqualifter pump monitored by a reaf master 2. I have not had any major trouble yet with ph getting to far out of range. I have the controller set to turn off and on at certain ph water perimeters. I also have it set on a timer where it will not dose when the kalk is mixing to allow the kalk to settle and not have a dramatic increase in ph. I had one small problem a few weeks ago when my water was evaporating to fast but I was able to adjust my auto top of to dose water longer than the 3 minute set time. So far my system has worked out great. Thanks to Alan for letting me see how all his worked.
