Blue Jow Trigger

  1. Got a picture of my new blue jaw that I got from NSA the other day. The picture is a bit graining because I used such a high ISO to avoid using the flash. He is eating my home made mix well, I tried to give him some krill but he didn't have a taste for it.

NICE ! ! I noticed you have him in with rock that has coraline algea on it, I was under the impression that a trigger fish would eat the coraline off the rock. I was just wondering if that was true. Can you see places where your triggers have scrapped the coraline algea off your rocks? Just curious.

  4. I have not heard of triggers eating coraline algae - but he is welcome to if he likes, there is plenty to go around. Parrot fish are the only calcium muchers that I am aware of - I am sure that there are alot more.

I was talking to the dude at NSA about that fish. He indicated that particular species of trigger was (insert fancy word here that I don't remember), which means he prefers to get his food up higher in the water column and is not really a coral grazer. He said its mouth was up higher than other triggers so it wasn't as good to graze rock like the other triggers do.

Yes, that is true, he is in the group with the "up-turned" mouths for feeding from the water column.

He would have to be upside down to eat on the rocks.
