Hello everyone. Addictive hobby we're in huh? :) As some of you know, I've kicked the tires on setting up a larger tank for quite some time now and i'm finally moving forward with the setup. I've decided to go with a 8 foot 240 gallon. Ordered the tank earlier in January so it should be arriving soon. Over the past few months I've been slowly accumulating the parts and pieces needed to set this monster up. I'll get some pics up later tonight, but wanted to get the thread started so I can begin documenting the process. The tank will be 96x24x25 with dual overflows with a emergency overflow in each. I had the stand custom built out of 2x2 steel beams to support the sheer weight of it. Its sitting on a concrete slab in my den so my only concern was making sure the stand could support it. I think i'm going to go refugeless on this build after doing a bit of reading on pros and cons for each. Below is a parts list of what I've accumulated so far:

    3 MP 40s (2 wireless/1 not)
Reef Octopus 9" Regal 220INT Internal Protein Skimmer
4 ext tank mounts with 4 x 12" rail kits (plan on using existing Hydra 52s on 120 and adding 2 pucks)
    additional 100+ pounds of rock
    display tank (240 gallon)-arriving soon

Still searching for used 120-125gal 6 foot for sump, not sure if i'm going internal or external pumps for returns yet.

As always i'm always up for recommendations, suggestions, best practices, etc from all of you guys and gals.

I was gonna suggest 2 MP60's but with the price reduction in the MP40's that makes a lot more sense.

Stand looks solid. Never seen the angled braces in the back. Your design? Did you but leveling feet on it or just going to shim it?

    That's a big skimmer..what's it rated for?

Yeah I saw a similar setup online and me and the metal fabricator guy made some tweaks. Skimmer is rated for 500 gallons. It actually sits flat on the slab in the den so I don't think I'll need to shim it

That's great Alan - wonder how long it will take you to fill it up with corals/fish.

Sounds great Allen. Maybe we can come see it some time, but will settle for pictures for now.

I have a bunch of new filter sock that appear to be the size of the ones under the stand in the pictures. Some are 100 micron and some are like 5 micron for some serious water polishing. If interested in them let me know. I know longer have my tanks

Sure thing Lynda. Going to be a task putting it all together. Tank is supposed to be here Wednesday, picking up a 125 for the sump this weekend, probably be trying to figure out the plumbing for another month :).

Picked up this lil gem in senatobia Mississippi over the weekend. Painted the wood trim black and filled with water. No leaks and soaking in vinegar now.

For a 125, this thing weighed a ton.
