Halichoeres melasmapomas......Ear muff wrasse. Been looking for one for 3 years and this one showed up on Reef Wise a couple of days ago.
That's weird. When I open the thread the correct picture is there. May be because I had two copies of the picture in Photobucket and deleted one. Strange that it doesn't show the cat pic for me though.
A few pictures from today. I need Allan to come take pictures for me! LOL Flame Wrasse Labout's wrasse Potter's wrasse Yellow fin flasher
Next group of new fish came in today. Rhomboid wrasse, Exquisite Wrasse and the smallest adult coloration Atlantic Blue Tang I've seen. Video about an hour after arrival. They look surprisingly comfortable for no longer than they have been here.
They will go through Tank Transfer for 12 days as preventative treatment for Ich. Then I'll observe them in a cycled 29 gallon tank for a few weeks. There I'll treat with Prazipro since wrasse are particularly prone to parasites such as flukes. How long after Prazi (I treat at least twice 3-7 days apart) depends on how well acclimated they are and how well they're eating. That is if they're still really shy and afraid of me instead of associating me with food I keep them in longer. As the tank get's nearer full, competition is more keen and they need to be well feed and ready to compete. Minimum is 2 weeks after TTM as Brook and Velvet can take that long to rear their ugly heads.
TTM? If I add that up, the time is approximately 4 weeks? 12 days in the hospital/quarantine tank and then approximately 2 weeks in the 29 gallon. Do you have other fish in the 29 gallon or is it a coral only tank that you use for transitioning fish only? I have lots of questions about introducing new fish to the tanks.
TTM (tank transfer method) is a method of treating Ich based on the life cycle of the parasite. It involves moving the fish every 72 hours for 12 days. The last transfer is to my 29 gallon QT. It has no coral or any other fish, just ceramic biomedia in a HOB filter and a couple of pieces of live rock. It never has anything in it but fish that have completed TTM(there actually is an exception to that rule but that's another discussion). I always watch them in the 29 for at least two additional weeks but usually more than that. Very tame, gregarious fish that are fat and eating well sometimes go in to the DT after the 2 additional weeks. Shy fish or those not eating well stay till they're not shy and are eating well. I treat most fish for flukes/other parasites with Prazipro while in the 29 gallon. Some people do that on the 2nd and 4th tanks in TTM but I don't like to do that. I've learned to be patient and so far it's worked well for me. I know that all sounds a bit much...but you asked! Maybe we'll talk about this at a meeting soon if yall would like.
