Help me out with a coral name for the big stag horn. I'm thinking a play on words with the color mixed in, Evander Holy-Teal. What are your thoughts?

If your planning on have your own signature pieces just put your name in front too. People love crazy names and that one fits!

I personally like descriptive names. Insert business name-teal-blue stag or summer-sky stag.

Evander Holly-teal stag is funny though. Will there possibly be a Mike Tyson tenuis or TKO Millie?

Now, is this something you've somehow created or morphed or whatever people do to corals or are you just deciding to name it and call it yours? I've heard about people giving crazy names to corals that already have names and it being confusing.. I'm sort of new to all the coral name stuff though.

I wish there was some sort of universal system where everyone called the different ones by the same names. It would make it much easier when trying to identify them and know what you have.

binomial nomenclature is the system but it comes with it's own flaws, not to mention latin is difficult to speak, I believe this would be acropora yongei

I didn't necessarily mean the species name but a common name that everyone uses. Like some zoas are sort of universal, rastas, bam bams, watermelon, etc ... but when people give those same ones their own name to be fun or whatever, it gets confusing. That's all I meant. I was just curious if this was a color morph that he created or whatever people do to name their own corals or f he was just renaming it for his own purposes. Just curious.

Most would refer to this as the Blue Stag, probably because Steve Tyree called his the Tyree Blue Stag. The one thing the name game does or should provide eventually is a lengthy lineage, which ideally would allow us to predict what environments the particular coral would do best in. Right now there is no acropedia or any easy way to access such information other than googling and reading. I won't name a coral unless I've grown it out for years and it's stood the test of time like my bud bomber poci, I've had it for almost a decade and seen it successful in numerous systems.

Ah, ok I get it.. I guess that makes sense.

  12. Anyone can buy maricultured, name-claim, and sell. This is why there are so many look-alikes. I too wish the naming system was more standard. However, it is human nature to buy something with a crazy or creative name. Someone might pay $10 for a light blue stag. Put that stag under heavy actinic lighting and give it a crazy name and the price increases 4 fold+

From a business standpoint Deton8it has the right approach.

I am used to Blue Slimers being of the Acropora Yongei family. The growth tips looks nothing like my Green Slimer. This looks closer to Acro Parilis
