Have a large number of poletti jaw breakers. These things are like koi. You never know how they will turn out but even the worst possible outcome is still a gorgeous specimen. Think I might have too many now. Time to frag them out yeah?
I would be down for the scraps if you need to rehome some. That gold color would be great in my tank!
I'm going to separate, not frag/cut, some up on the weekend of March 17 for the upcoming frag swap in Catoosa. For folks going to the frag swap and able to meet me there, I'll be throwing them away for relatively cheap, still steep on some pockets but, considering 1/2" jawbreakers from vendors are still selling at ~$200, it's still a pretty good deal. I mean, frag swaps are places your suppose to go and get killer deals right?! lol. I'll list what I can separate apart for sell here and on reef2reef's arkansas and oklahoma's local forums. Gotta build my war chest funds for the swap, I'll be after a few high end pieces in the softies and lps categories. Thinking like ~$60-$70-$80. Depending on what colors it has developing on it will be the price point but ~$80 is max. So like the one in the second photo with red and green already developing, that's like ~$80. I'll know more for sure once I get them sorted out and pictured.
I'll see what I can do with the JawBreakers. I was only offering them at the event cause my tank is actually on the way there. Meaning I could pick them up and drop off any that were not sold back in my tank before coming back to Little Rock. I don't require people to deposit money or buy it once they see it. I don't have a tank here in Little Rock so it makes it hard to sell, especially since I work most weekends and when I'm not, I'm traveling quite a bit.
Just curious if you still have any Jawbreakers available near Little Rock anytime soon. I may also be able to travel if need be
Haven't been able to attend any frag swaps or events so my jaw breaker population has exploded. The coloration of some that I had selected to sell at tornado alley are now pretty insane. Might attempt st.louis show later this year.
I am definitely interested if you ate looking to rehome. Also curious about how you are so successful with them (parameters/light settings). I have had one that has barely grown in well over a year an another that bleached out.
Yes I live in little rock but my tank is actually ~100 miles west of little rock. So it's hard to pick things up to sell to locals here. My brother is itching to start an anemone tank in town, so if that does happen, I'll be able to bring them in to little rock to sell. Parameters: Salinity - 35 ppt Calcium - 440 ppm Magnesium - 1400 ppm Alkalinity - 8 dkh My primary light source are two Kessil a360 tuna blues that run 9 hours. I supplement them with 4 ATI aqua blue plus bulbs for 3 hours a day. From what I have seen over the years, they prefer a lot less light and they don't respond to feeding. If you want them to grow/expand to 2+ inches or so, you'll need to place in them in about ~35-50 par. Pretty much the less light you hit them with the bigger they are and the more yellow they are. If you keep them in higher par, they are smaller and leans more towards orange/yellow. They do well in moderate to slow flow. My strain seems to be pretty hardy to poorer water conditions. They won't thrive in lower quality conditions but they won't flop over if your alk drops low, salinity spikes/falls or magnesium skyrockets for a brief period of time. I'd have to try pretty hard to kill them. I've dipped them in bayer and all sorts of dips and they've survived. They are, however, very easy to damage. If you smear them with your finger you'll scrap off the yellow fluorescent proteins revealing the purple colored flesh below. The reason they might be fluorescing so brightly is probably because the fluorescent proteins are very close to the skin surface but because of this they are very delicate. An individual on reef2reef thought his jawbreaker was developing purple with red and green but he just damaged it while moving it around and once it recovered, it was just yellow, red and green.
Thank you for the awesome and detailed response! Like others have said I may be willing to take a road trip if you are willing to sell a couple
I agree with @ShaneT I can roadtrip for corals....shoot drove to dallas and back for a couple fish! Same day early morning grab and run home like smokey and the bandit!
