My apologies, wrong picture. Please take a look at this one. We have two clown fish, put them in the tank about a week ago. Tank has been setup for 2 months.
This is a little closer picture. Still learning how to use my DSLR for aquarium pictures. More difficult than I remember.
Has it gotten larger or more noticeable since you got it? Did you quarantine or treat prophyllactally for anything? Are there any other fish or inhabitants that could have caused an injury?
No, not really but its only been about 2 days since I noticed. Nope, first two fish, didn't think it was necessary to quarantine. Some, two emeralds, several hermits. I think I figured it out though. I think it was an undissolved salt that stung him, looks exactly the same size as was floats around at the bottom of my mixing jug. I usually do water changes on Sunday and this past weekend I mixed my salt the night before and let it sit outside in the warmer temp. It dissolved more this go around.
How do you dissolve your salt? I use a powerhead instead of a pump and haven't ever noticed any undissolved stuff. I just go move it around a bit (it usually just hangs in there) to make sure it has hit the entire bottom a few times before using.
I have been putting the salt in a 5 gal water jug, mixing it by hand. It is probably a better idea to mix in a 5 gallon bucket with a power head or a pump. I will see about doing that this weekend. Never had this problem when I used reef crystals on my nano tank years ago. I decided to go with Aqua Forest bulk reef salt on Amazon. Not sure if its better or not. What do you guys use? I would rather invest more money in good salt than in supplements.
I'm currently using reef crystals but will be changing to fritz when it's time to buy more. I guess I need to call the fish tank and make sure they will have enough ordered for me to grab one.
What makes you want this over Red Sea Coral Pro Salt...I just ordered the smaller container of this to try out.
For me it's the magnesium level. For some reason I cannot keep mag up and someone posted the levels and mag was much higher. Figured I'd try it out. @huntindoc and @Deton8it have much more insight!
I swear by Fritz. It has the parameters thar I like. It is produced in small batches. Every batch is tested and the test results kept for 3 years. Is disolves fast. It isn't expensive. And a bunch of the vendors in this industry use it. Im not sure that I will ever go back to a different salt.
Is there a way to find out what the batch you have tested? I got a new bucket and my parameters were Alk....8.7, Calcium 490, Magnesium 1500(I'm fine with those numbers). I haven't had to dose magnesium in a long time. LOL. I checked my refractometers several times. I mixed up some IO I had and it tested Alk..10.4, Calcium 390, Magnesium 1230 which is about where it always has been for me.
