I set up GFO and Carbon reactors Sunday night. I thought my water was clear before till I came home tonight. Impressed with the difference.

My SPS seem to like it as do my Zoa's and LPS. My leather and mushroom are a little withdrawn tonight though my Ricordia looks fine. Is this coincidence? Is the carbon responsible for the water clarity difference?

Yes, you will find all different types of opinions from people on running carbon. But it does polish your water and pull dissolved organics out, your GFO will lower phosphate levels which your sps will love. Your softies however like the water a little dirty, that's probably why the leathers a little closed. But they usually get used to it after a while. Good move IMO.

I agree, I run GFO and Carbon on my coral tanks. Softies like you saw at my house love the nutrient rich water that SPS can't tolerate. I also think that was a good addition.

Take the following with a grain of salt (pun intended :) )

I have noticed a "stripping" of certain elements over long periods of using carbon. Usually I have noticed it when I fell behind on water changes and ran some tests to see what my less common stuff was at (strontium, magnesium, etc). When I have kept up with my water changes, no problems.

That being said, go for it, I run it 100% of the time, but make sure to keep up with water changes to replace the trace elements.
